Off the road

3 weeks with Cardinal was all I could take. I was ready to doanything BUT drive. So, I decided to sell appliances at Sears at theColumbia Mall. Come on in & say hi. We have plenty of parking forbig trucks (butplease park at the rear of the mall, toward the Econo-Lodge, wherethere is a vacant anchor store. The parking lot near Sears & KFC isgetting tore up by pivoting tandems and we've had atleast one driver take out a light pole). We're at I-80 x232 in Buckhorn PA. Facilities there are:
T/A Travelcenter with ServicePoint and Buckhorn Restaurant;
Subway, Wendy's, KFC, Burger King, Perkins, Ruby Tuesday, Cracker Barrel, and a steakhouse.
The mall has Sears
(of course), JCPenney, Bon-Ton, Radio Shack, Auntie Annes pretzels, etc.
Nearby is Super Walmart with McDonalds inside, Lowes, Home Depot,Office Depot, Dollar Tree, Panera Bread, VerizonWireless, shoe store.

I'll have them delivered to just about anywhere in the USA on whichever date youchoose, up to 60 days out.

I don't make even 1/3 of what I made driving, but I'm home everynight in my own bed in my own house. Ya gotta factor that in when making a career decision.

Driving Local

SEP '05: I took a local job with Cardinal Logistics. They deliver from Mountain Top PA to Office Depot stores in the northeast. Never before have I worked so hard and come so close to having to fudge my log book!  Baltimore, DC, NYC, NJ... think of your worst places to pick up and deliver, worst roads to drive on, most impossible dispatch timelines, and you have a good idea what it's like to drive for Cardinal.

Running Solo

Lori had to come off the road for health reasons. I ran team for awhile with Zejlko Matijakovic. In June, I started running solo. That meant a $0.05/mi pay cut, shorter runs, and harder work. Worst of all, I was stuck east of the Mississippi, save for a few runs to Dallas & Laredo. It also meant many more trips to rail yards. I even had to deliver to two (gasp) grocery warehouses! It also involved many more back roads in the country as well as a trip into Brooklyn.
